Conspiracy theory: I a possible Ford EV strategy is to wait for GM to go under and then buy the Volt division.
I've seen Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries for as low as $310/Kwh recently . . . at that price, the 16Kwh pack in the Volt would only cost $5K. And with a $7.5K tax credit, the tax credit more than pays for the battery.

Re: yesterday's podcast, whether Project Get Ready is non-profit. I checked their website, and it does say, right on the home page:
Project Get Ready is a non-profit initiative led by Rocky Mountain Institute, in conjunction with a wide array of partners and technical advisers.
Looking at Project Get Ready's website, perhaps this is best thought of as a resource center for cities that want to start green car initiatives. In the same way that people might tune in to the EVcast to get information about EVs, city officials might contact Project Get Ready for information about the best way to support EVs in their city.
It looks like Project Get Ready will collect information and make recommendations about the best way to promote EV usage in cities. This might range from charging infastructure, to incentives (e.g. tax breaks) to luxuries (e.g. free parking or premium parking). Surely each city figuring things out on their own will make more mistakes than if there is a central advising group to help the process.
Well, GM was really troubled all through out the year. They had made some adjustments by improving some parts like the chrome bumper and the valves but then seems like these improvements on the parts didn't work out.
