Well said Daryl, you took the words right out of my mouth regarding Greg Blencoe's comments. You'll need around 4 times the solar panels to generate the electricity to extract hydrogen from water, instead of putting the electricity straight into your car.

And Rick, ten points for the math. I stand in the shadow of your incredible intellect, you're right on the money again. VERY interesting to hear how many kW/h it takes to make a kilogram of H2, puts things into perspective - thanks for that mate!

Personally, my gripe about the hydrogen fuel cell isn't efficiency, nor is it infrastructure, nor ecological benefits, nor future availability. Nope, for me it all comes down to cost, cost, cost. I expect the majority of motorists now and in the future are right behind me on this, and so far the battery electric vehicle is cheaper to build than a fuel cell vehicle, cheaper to buy than a fuel cell vehicle, and cheaper to own than a fuel cell vehicle.

One really great thing about electric cars is that they offer ecological benefits as byproducts! Pretty cool if you ask me.

One small point.  The hydrogen powered cars are EVs.  They have batteries and everything to prove it.  The just happen to charge their batteries from a fuel cell.
